How to Make the Best Facial Scrub – Using 3 Ingredients You Already Have At Home
If you’re anything like me you’ve tried just about every facial scrub out there from the cheap supermarket ones to the overly priced, incredibly tiny brand name ones. Some of them are great, some of them not so great. What if I told you that you could have the best facial scrub for just a few dollars, using 3 items that are most probably already in your cupboard?
I have super sensitive skin that tends to be quite dry. I researched natural ingredients to help my skin and came up with this concoction that has been the absolute saving grace for my face.
So here it is:
1 part Coconut Oil
2 part Raw Sugar (if you’d prefer you can use Coconut Sugar)
(Optional) Raw Honey
(Optional) Essential Oil such as Frankincense
Layer each ingredient into a jar (must be able to seal water tight) then stir through.
It is that simple.
To use the scrub simply put a small dollop onto your fingertips and massage into your face (it is easier if you have already dampened your skin).
Without pressing too hard, gently massage into your skin in circular motions, paying careful attention to problem areas.
Rinse off excess when done and you will be left with soft, moisturised skin.
This scrub does more than just take the excess gunk off your face. It’s good for your skin too! Here’s why:
We have all heard the hundreds of uses for coconut oil and have certainly paid witness to the rise in its popularity over the last few years and there’s a good reason why. Coconut oil is unique in that it possesses both antibacterial and antifungal properties.
While you may question why this is needed on your face, these unique properties make it a powerful agent for fighting acne, pimples, dermatitis and eczema. It also possesses healing properties that help all of the above conditions as well as reducing the signs of ageing and any scarring.
It is also a lovely moisturiser that naturally leaves the skin feeling soft and isn’t harsh on delicate areas such as around the eyes.
Raw Sugar (or Coconut Sugar)
This is added as an exfoliating agent. Choose a raw sugar that is fine enough that it isn’t harsh on the skin, while being coarse enough to reduce dead skin build up – allowing the coconut oil and honey to penetrate the skin and work their best.
Raw Honey (Optional)
Much like coconut oil, raw honey possesses antibacterial properties that, when applied to the face, can help clarify pores and prevent build-up that causes pimples and blemishes. Raw honey also has anti-inflammatory properties which assist in the reducing the appearance of scars.
In addition, when gently massaged into the face, it can help reduce puffiness and make your skin look more radiant.
Essential Oils (Frankincense)
This is an optional addition but can really take your facial scrub to the next level. I use Frankincense because of it’s properties for skin vitality and because it smells so darn good! The possibilities are endless!
There are so many other uses for this scrub. When I have finished using it on my face I take the remaining scrub left on my fingers and gently massage it through my hands, paying particular attention to the cuticles and knuckles. You will be left with the softest hands after using this.
You can also use it as a whole body scrub, can be used as a scalp scrub and it also works brilliantly as a foot scrub.
It really is so versatile, simple and cheap and makes brilliant gifts for others. Happy scrubbing!
