One of the things I love the absolute most about blogging is that it is always changing – there are always new things to learn, new platforms to explore, new eBooks to read and new information to find.
I spend a lot (and I mean a lot) of time researching and reading about blogging. It’s my absolute passion. And when I find a blogging tool that gets me excited – I just want to share it with everyone. Because that’s another great thing about blogging, no one is trying to hide the information for themselves. The blogosphere is such an incredibly supportive place that we want to share the best information with everyone because we genuinely get excited when others are doing well.
So today I’m taking a different route with my Friday Favourites and sharing with you the 5 blogging tools I love right now. Each and every one of these tools has helped me to grow my blog and my brand, and I am sure they could do the same for you.
Talking about sharing information, well Amy literally shares it all. If you’re not familiar with Workflowy then you should be (I use it to keep track of my notes now too and it is amazing). Amy shares with you her Workflowy notepad that houses all of her thoughts about blogging, whether it’s methods she has used that work, trends to keep an eye on or things to avoid – Amy shares it all. And that’s not even the best part. Amy continues to add to it and her Knowtbook continues to update so when you check in a month or 6 months from now, it has all of her latest notes in there. Brialliant!! And if that’s not enough for you – Amy hasn’t set a price for it… you get to pick you own price. You know what… just go read about it here... you won’t regret it.
**Hot Tip – Start with the section called ‘Playbook’ filed under ‘Strategy’. So much information here… **
Get on it now!! Seriously. A week ago I had no idea what Periscope was all about, now I’m madly addicted. It’s linked in with Twitter so if you have a Twitter account you can sign in with that and you’re all set to go. You get to watch ‘scopes’ (live video chats) of the people you are following and you can type questions to ask them, which they will see and, depending on what scope you’re watching, they may even answer for you. You can also send the ‘scoper’ hearts to show them you love what they are saying. Warning – Periscope is addictive, it may entice you to leave your friends at lunch when you get a notification that your favourite scoper is now live and it will chew though your internet data like there is no tomorrow so use wifi!!
** Hot Tip – Follow Tabitha Philen from Inspired Bloggers Network and Inspired Bloggers University. Her ‘scopes’ are amazing. Seriously. I learned more from her in 2 scopes than I could possibly learn in a week of researching Pinterest strategies. She is brilliant. And I love her accent. **
I haven’t had an iPhone for years and podcasts don’t seem to be as easily accessible on Androids, but now that I’ve worked it out, I’m super addicted. The podcasts of all podcasts has to come from Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income. You must listen to this if you are in business of any sort. Even if you’re not, just listen to them. So valuable. I’m also loving the 31 Days to Build a Better Blog Challenge by Darren Rowse which goes hand in hand with his 31DBBB workbook that I had purchased earlier this year and was taking me a lot longer than 31 days to work through. These podcasts have kept me on track (I’m even working on one of the tasks right now!!).
** Hot Tip – Download the podcasts you want to listen to and go for a walk. You’ll absorb more information that way. I listen to podcasts while I’m on the treadmill. You can also use Evernote to make notes for the brilliant ideas that will pop into your head. **
This was the first ever eBook about blogging that I purchased. It was one that kept popping up as a recommendation by so many people and there’s a reason for that. It’s because it is amazing. Ruth has packed so much in to this book, it really covers so much. Some people have said that it is a great book to have before delving into Ruth’s Elite Blog Academy course (which I am 100% signing up for next round) and if this is the lead in to the course then I cannot wait to sink my teeth in.
** Hot Tip – Keep coming back to this book. It will continue to serve you well as an amazing reference tool. I re-read it, or parts of it, each month to make sure I keep my head clear about my Pinterest brand and strategy. **
My most recent eBook purchase… this eBook contains a lot of information about monetising your blog which is perfect for where I am at right now. I do wish I had bought this book sooner though as it has so much other information in there too. I thought it would be just about monetisation but there’s also info about set ups, creating content and establishing your niche, perfect for the new blogger to learn or the established blogger to rehash.
** Hot Tip – Don’t attempt to read all of this in one sitting. There is simply too much incredible content in here for you to absorb in one go. **
So there’s my favourites right now and I’m always on the lookout for new blogging tools so I’d love to hear what’s making your favourites list.
